Can you give AI your own instructions for answering customer questions?
October 25, 2026 · 7 min read
Yes. In BetterSocials, you write your prices, hours and booking link as AI rules, and the AI answers comment questions from them in your voice. Turn on Reply in my voice, then Answer questions too. Until that second switch is on, every question waits for your approval.
The person asking "how much?" is on your post right now. Answer with your real price and your booking link while they're still there, and they book with you. Leave it until tonight and they've booked whoever answered first.
Why we built this
Two requests came up at signup and in support. People wanted to give the AI their own instructions, the way you'd write a custom prompt for your business. And they wanted it to answer questions as well as thank people for compliments. Answer questions too shipped on October 22, 2026 to do both.
How does the AI know my prices and hours?
It reads your AI rules. An AI rule is one plain sentence you write that the AI follows in every reply. You write them in Settings, then AI voice, and they apply to every draft and every automatic reply.
Your rules decide what the AI says. Your voice profile decides how it says it. BetterSocials builds that voice profile from your past replies, so the answers read like you typed them.
Two example rules:
- "Never quote prices, send people to the booking link."
- "Mention we're closed Mondays."
A link you write into your own rules, like your booking page or your menu, stays in the AI's replies. Every other link gets stripped before a reply sends, because some platforms punish links in comments.
How do I turn on AI answers to questions?
Settings, then AI voice, has three settings. The same switch sits in the Inbox header.
- Off means you write every reply, and AI assist drafts one when you click it on a thread.
- Draft for me drafts a reply in your voice for each new comment. Nothing posts until you approve it, one at a time or with Approve in bulk.
- Reply in my voice sends everyday replies in your voice without you checking each one. Questions wait in Needs reply.
Answer questions too is an opt-in switch under Reply in my voice. It lets the AI answer questions on its own. It only turns on after you've written at least one AI rule, so the AI answers from your facts instead of guessing.
The safe way to start is a day on Draft for me. Read the drafts, fix any rule that misses, then move to Reply in my voice and switch on Answer questions too.
What should my AI rules say?
A handful of rules covers most questions. A salon, gym or restaurant can start with these and fill in the details:
- 1Your price list, one service or item and its price per sentence.
- 2Your hours for each day of the week.
- 3Your booking link, with an instruction to include it when someone asks how to book.
- 4The days you're closed.
- 5What to say to the questions you'd rather handle yourself, such as "for custom quotes, ask them to send us a DM."
Keep each rule to one fact or one instruction. Short rules are easier for you to check and easier for the AI to follow. When a price changes, change the rule, and the next answer uses the new price.
If the person asking is ready to book, the answer and the link do the selling. We walk through that path in How local businesses turn Instagram comments into bookings.
What will the AI leave for me?
Some things always stay with you:
- DMs. AI comment replies answer comments only and never send DMs on their own. You answer DMs in the Inbox, and AI assist drafts each one in your voice when you click it.
- Keyword comments. A comment with one of your keywords still runs Comment to DM, whatever your AI setting. On Instagram and Facebook, the link that keyword sends is the one automatic DM.
- Questions, until you switch on Answer questions too.
- Spam, which the AI skips.
Every reply passes a filter for banned phrases and length before it can send. And DMs have a clock. Instagram only lets a business reply within 24 hours of the person's last message. Our guide to the 24-hour window, explained covers what to do when it closes.
How do other AI reply tools handle your own instructions?
Some tools win on price or scope.
| Tool | Where your facts come from | Covers | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| BetterSocials | AI rules plus your voice profile | Comments on every platform you connect, in one Inbox | From $29 a month for 4 accounts |
| Meta Business Suite | Templates you write, or Meta Business Agent | Instagram and Facebook | Free |
| Instagram AI auto replies | A creator AI you build in Meta AI Studio | Part of Instagram |
Meta Business Suite wins on price for one or two canned answers on Instagram and Facebook. It sends the templates you write, or hands off to Meta Business Agent. You set it up on desktop, and a keyword reply waits 15 minutes before sending unless you answer first.
Instagram's own AI auto replies need a creator AI built in Meta AI Studio. Instagram says the feature is being gradually introduced, so it may not be on your account yet.
CommentShark also trains AI on your past replies, for YouTube comments only. If YouTube is your whole business, it's worth a look.
BetterSocials puts your own rules and your own voice on every comment, across platforms, at a flat price with unlimited contacts. For the wider field, see The 9 best AI tools that reply to comments and DMs in your own voice in 2026.
How BetterSocials does this
Three steps, and your comments get answered with your facts while you're busy with customers:
- 1Connect Instagram and your other accounts from Connected Accounts. Every comment lands in one Inbox.
- 2Write your AI rules in Settings, then AI voice, starting with your prices, hours and booking link.
- 3Start on Draft for me. When the drafts look right, switch to Reply in my voice and turn on Answer questions too.
Each AI draft or reply uses 1 credit. Creator includes 1,000 AI credits a month, Pro 2,000, and Team 4,000 shared. When credits run out, the AI pauses. It never charges more on its own.
Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for 4 social accounts and one login. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for 6 accounts. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 12 accounts and unlimited teammates. Every plan has a 7-day free trial, card required.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI answer comment questions with my own prices?+
Yes. Write your prices, hours and booking link as AI rules in Settings, then AI voice. Turn on Reply in my voice, then Answer questions too, and the AI answers questions from those rules in your voice. Until you switch that on, questions wait in Needs reply for you.
Can I give the AI my own instructions, like a custom prompt?+
Yes. AI rules are your instructions, written as plain sentences, such as "never quote prices, send people to the booking link." They apply to every draft and every automatic reply. Your voice profile, built from your past replies, sets the tone.
Will the AI include my booking link?+
Yes, if the link is in your AI rules. Links you write into your own rules are kept in AI replies. Every other link is stripped before the reply sends, and every reply passes a banned-phrase and length filter.
Can I check each answer before it posts?+
Yes. Choose Draft for me in Settings, then AI voice. The AI drafts a reply in your voice for each new comment, and nothing posts until you approve it, one at a time from Needs reply or all at once with Approve in bulk.
Will the AI answer DMs with my prices too?+
No. AI comment replies answer comments only and never send DMs on their own. You answer DMs in the Inbox, and AI assist drafts a DM reply in your voice when you click it. The only automatic DM is the link a keyword comment sends on Instagram or Facebook.
How much does it cost?+
Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for 4 social accounts and 1,000 AI credits. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for 6 accounts and 2,000 credits. Each AI reply uses 1 credit, and when credits run out the AI pauses instead of charging more.
