Pick Buffer if you mostly schedule posts and answer a few comments by hand. Pick BetterSocials if your comments and DMs bring in customers and you want them answered in one inbox, in your voice. Buffer charges per channel and has a free plan. BetterSocials charges one flat price per plan, from $29 a month for four accounts, with unlimited contacts.

We read both pricing pages, buffer.com/pricing and bettersocials.ai/pricing, on October 22, 2026. Every total below is our arithmetic on those list prices.

How do BetterSocials and Buffer compare at a glance?

Both tools schedule posts to the big platforms. The difference is what happens after you post, and how the bill grows when you add accounts or people.

Which one costs less?

Buffer costs less when one person posts to a few channels. BetterSocials costs less once a team shares twelve accounts.

What you needBetterSocialsBuffer
4 accounts, just youCreator: $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearlyEssentials, 4 channels: $24 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly
6 accounts, just youPro: $49 a month, or $39 a month billed yearlyEssentials, 6 channels: $36 a month, or $30 a month billed yearly
12 accounts, a teamTeam: $99 a month, or $79 a month billed yearlyTeam, 12 channels: $144 a month, or $120 a month billed yearly

Buffer's Team plan is $12 per channel a month, or $10 per channel a month billed yearly, with unlimited team members. BetterSocials Team is one price for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates.

So for one person who only posts, Buffer saves you a few dollars a month. For a team, BetterSocials costs less and adds DMs and comment-to-DM.

Does Buffer answer DMs?

No. Buffer's help center says it "does not offer direct messaging." Its Community inbox handles comments.

That comment inbox covers a lot of ground. Buffer lists Facebook Pages, Instagram professional accounts, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profiles. If comments are all you answer, Buffer handles them well.

DMs are where a lot of local businesses and creators make their money. Someone asks about a price, a booking or a size in a DM. On Buffer, you answer those in each app. On BetterSocials, Instagram DMs, Facebook Messenger and TikTok DMs land in the same Inbox as your comments, with views for Needs reply, Replied, tags and leads.

Two platform rules apply to every tool. TikTok lets a business reply to a DM but never start one, with at most 10 replies within 48 hours of the person's last message. YouTube has no private messages at all, so on any tool YouTube is comments only.

What does comment-to-DM add?

Comment-to-DM sends a DM with your link to anyone who comments a keyword. You write the keyword and the message once. There's no flow builder.

Say you post a Reel and ask people to comment "MENU." Everyone who does gets a public reply and a DM with your menu link. On Instagram and Facebook, BetterSocials sends both.

On TikTok and YouTube, no tool can turn a comment into a private message. There, and on Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages, the keyword posts a public reply with your link instead.

Buffer doesn't offer comment-to-DM. If you've been paying ManyChat for it, BetterSocials includes it on every plan, with unlimited keywords and unlimited contacts. Which is better for your comment-to-DM funnel, BetterSocials or Manychat? goes deeper on that choice.

How do the AI replies differ?

Buffer suggests AI replies in its Community inbox. Its pricing page lists 5 suggestions a week on Free and unlimited suggestions on Essentials and Team.

BetterSocials writes replies in your voice. It learns from your past replies and follows the AI rules you write in plain sentences, like "never quote prices, send people to the booking link." In Settings, then AI voice, you pick one of three settings:

  1. 1Off. You write every reply, and AI assist drafts one when you click it.
  2. 2Draft for me. The AI drafts a reply for each new comment, and nothing posts until you approve it, one at a time or with Approve in bulk.
  3. 3Reply in my voice. The AI sends everyday replies for you. Questions wait for you unless you turn on Answer questions too, which needs at least one AI rule first.

AI replies answer comments only. They never send DMs on their own. You answer DMs in the Inbox, and AI assist drafts a reply in your voice when you click it.

Who should pick Buffer?

Buffer fits you if you schedule posts, answer comments by hand, and sell somewhere other than your DMs. Its free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, which is enough to build a posting habit before you pay. Buffer also posts to networks BetterSocials doesn't, like X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profiles. Paid Buffer plans come with a 14-day free trial.

Who should pick BetterSocials?

BetterSocials fits you if your comments and DMs turn into customers. A med spa answering "how much is lip filler?" in DMs. A creator sending a guide to everyone who comments "GUIDE." A small team sharing twelve accounts without paying per channel.

You get posting and scheduling, one Inbox for comments and DMs, comment-to-DM and AI replies in your voice for one flat price. There's no free plan. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial (card required), and your first paid charge has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
