If you only post and answer comments, Buffer is hard to beat on price: $5 a month per channel, billed yearly. The trouble starts when your customers write to you in DMs, because Buffer has no direct messages at all. At that point the cheaper move is one tool that posts and keeps comments and DMs together. BetterSocials does that from $24 a month billed yearly for four accounts, SocialBee from $29 a month for five profiles, and Pallyy from $20 a month billed yearly for one person.
Every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page in October 2026, with the billing period beside it.
What does Buffer cost once you add up your channels?
Buffer charges by the channel. Essentials is $5 a month per channel billed yearly, or $6 a month per channel billed monthly. Team is $10 a month per channel billed yearly, or $12 a month per channel billed monthly, and it adds unlimited team members.
Run it on your own accounts. Four channels on Essentials cost $20 a month billed yearly. Five cost $25 a month. Six cost $30 a month. Every account you connect raises the bill, so the price that looked tiny at two channels grows with your business.
The free plan covers up to three channels, one user and 10 scheduled posts per channel.
Does Buffer handle comments and DMs?
Buffer handles comments. Its Community inbox is on every plan and lets you reply to comments on Instagram professional accounts, Facebook Pages, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Google Business Profiles and a few more networks. It can't reply to comments on ads.
Buffer doesn't handle DMs. Its own comparison page says the Community inbox "focuses on comments and mentions," and its help center says Buffer "does not offer direct messaging." So your Instagram and Facebook messages stay in the phone apps, and you check two places every morning.
That gap is why people go looking. It's one of the reasons people give us when they sign up for BetterSocials: they want their posts and their replies, DMs included, in one tool, and they don't want a bill that climbs with every account.
How we picked these eight
Each tool had to pass three tests:
- 1It schedules or publishes your posts.
- 2It lets you reply to comments from one inbox instead of each app.
- 3It publishes its price, so you can work out your own bill.
We build BetterSocials, so we put it on the list and say plainly where the others beat it.
1. BetterSocials: posting, comments and DMs in one inbox
BetterSocials is for owners whose comments and DMs turn into customers. You post and schedule to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn from one place. Comments from all six land in one Inbox. DMs from Instagram, Facebook and TikTok land right beside them.
There are three flat plans:
- Creator: $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, for four social accounts and one login.
- Pro: $49 a month, or $39 a month billed yearly, for six social accounts, one login and analytics.
- Team: $99 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly, for 12 social accounts and unlimited teammates.
Every plan has unlimited contacts and unlimited keyword automations, and nothing is billed per contact. Each plan starts with a 7-day free trial, card required.
A keyword automation is the plug that sends your link when someone comments a word you chose. On Instagram and Facebook, the link arrives in their DMs with a public reply under the comment. On TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages, the link goes in a public reply under the comment instead.
Replies get faster too. With Draft for me on, every new comment gets a draft in your voice, built from your past replies and the AI rules you write. Nothing posts until you approve it, one at a time or with Approve in bulk. DMs stay in your hands: you answer them, and AI assist writes a draft when you click it.
Where others win: Buffer is cheaper if you only post, and it covers networks we don't, such as Bluesky and Google Business Profiles.
2. Metricool: a free inbox for one brand
Metricool is for the owner who wants to start free. The free plan covers one brand, and its inbox already reads Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile messages and comments.
Starter is $25 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly, for five brands. LinkedIn joins the inbox on Starter. Metricool prices by brand, so a brand with four networks still counts once. Unlimited team members start on Advanced, at $67 a month, or $53 a month billed yearly, for 15 brands.
Pick Metricool if you want analytics and a free start. It's the strongest free option on this list.
3. SocialBee: DMs on a one-person plan
SocialBee is for a solo owner who wants DMs in the inbox without a big bill. Bootstrap is $29 a month billed monthly, or $290 a year, for one user and five social profiles.
Comments, mentions and DMs are on every plan. DMs cover Facebook Pages and Instagram Business accounts, and the inbox also takes YouTube comments. An extra user is $10 a month.
At five profiles, SocialBee costs about the same as five Buffer channels billed monthly ($30 a month), and your Instagram and Facebook DMs come with it.
4. Pallyy: Google reviews beside your comments
Pallyy is for local businesses that live on reviews. Its inbox starts on Pro at $25 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly, for one user. Pallyy doesn't sell extra users.
The inbox holds Instagram DMs, comments and mentions, Facebook messages, comments and reviews, LinkedIn and TikTok comments, and Google reviews. YouTube isn't on that list, so pick something else if your videos get most of your comments there.
5. Planable: unlimited users, inbox as an add-on
Planable is for a team that wants everyone in the tool without paying per seat. Basic is $39 a month per workspace, or $33 a month billed yearly, with unlimited users.
The inbox is a paid add-on: $9 a month per workspace, or $90 a year. It covers DMs from Facebook and Instagram, plus comments from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. Add the two together and you're at $48 a month billed monthly.
6. Later: Instagram and TikTok conversations from Growth
Later is for creators who plan around photos and short video. Starter is $25 a month, or $18.75 a month billed yearly, but it has no inbox.
Conversations start on Growth at $50 a month, or $37.50 a month billed yearly, with two social sets and two users. Growth covers Instagram DMs, comments and mentions, Facebook DMs and comments, and TikTok comments. YouTube and LinkedIn aren't in Later's Conversations list. If you're already on Later, The best Later alternative that handles DMs and comments walks through the switch.
7. Vista Social: two people sharing messages and reviews
Vista Social is for a two-person team. Professional is $99 a month, or $80 a month billed yearly, with 2 users on the plan card and 15 profiles.
Its engagement tools manage messages, comments and reviews in one place. It costs more than Buffer at any small channel count, so it earns its price once two people share the replies.
8. Agorapulse: one inbox for a team that pays per seat
Agorapulse is for teams that want every teammate in the same inbox. Standard is $79 a month per user billed yearly, or $99 a month per user billed monthly, with 10 social profiles. Its inbox handles messages and organic comments on every plan, and you can try it free for 30 days.
For one person, that's a lot to pay for an inbox. For three people, it's $237 a month billed yearly.
How do the prices compare with Buffer?
Prices below are the monthly rate on yearly billing unless the row says otherwise.
| Tool | Entry price | Priced by | DMs in the inbox |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer Essentials | $5 a month | Channel | No |
| BetterSocials Creator | $24 a month | Plan, 4 accounts | Instagram, Facebook, TikTok |
| Metricool | $0 a month free, Starter $20 a month | Brand | Yes |
| SocialBee Bootstrap | $29 a month, billed monthly | Plan, 5 profiles | Facebook, Instagram |
| Pallyy Pro | $20 a month | Plan, 1 user | Instagram, Facebook |
| Planable Basic plus inbox | $33 a month plus $90 a year | Workspace | Facebook, Instagram |
| Later Growth | $37.50 a month | Plan, 2 users | Instagram, Facebook |
| Vista Social Professional | $80 a month | Plan, 2 users | Yes |
| Agorapulse Standard | $79 a month per user | User | Yes |
Now run your own numbers. Four channels on Buffer cost $20 a month billed yearly. BetterSocials Creator costs $24 a month billed yearly for four accounts. For posting and comments alone, Buffer is cheaper.
Add DMs and keyword links and the sum flips. Buffer for four channels plus ManyChat Pro ($29 a month billed yearly for 2,500 active contacts, on ManyChat's pricing page in October 2026) comes to $49 a month, and Buffer's inbox still can't show you a DM. BetterSocials Creator does both for $24 a month billed yearly.
Which one should you pick?
If you post and only answer comments, stay on Buffer or start free on Metricool. If your buyers ask about prices and bookings in DMs, pick a tool that puts DMs beside your comments, or you'll keep losing the ones who don't wait. For one person with four accounts who wants keyword links and replies in their voice, that's BetterSocials.
