ManyChat overage in 2026: what each extra contact costs
November 2, 2026 · 8 min read
ManyChat's free plan covers 25 active contacts a month. Past that, every bill is a plan fee plus a fee for each contact over the plan's allowance, from $0.10 down to $0.025 a head on monthly billing, as of October 2026. ManyChat suits funnels that need multi-step flows or WhatsApp and SMS. CreatorFlow suits one or two Instagram accounts on a flat fee. BetterSocials suits a business that wants keyword comment-to-DM and AI replies across several platforms for $29 a month, four accounts, with unlimited contacts.
The cost question, answered: a plan fee plus a fee per extra contact
ManyChat prices its plans by active contacts, so the question for a demand budget is cost per captured contact, and that is the angle this memo takes. Every ManyChat bill follows one formula: the plan price, plus the contacts over the allowance times the plan's overage rate.
The free plan held 1,000 contacts before March 2026. It holds 25 now, which one decent keyword post can use up.
Our assumptions: one ManyChat account, month-to-month billing unless we say otherwise, and every commenter who gets an automated DM counts as an active contact. The sources are ManyChat's pricing page and its help article on active contacts, both as of October 2026.
How ManyChat decides who counts as an active contact
ManyChat defines an active contact as a person who interacts with you through ManyChat in the billing month. The count resets every month. A person who comments on your post and gets a DM in October counts in October, and again in November if they interact again.
The Active Contacts help article adds the detail that matters most for budgeting. Contacts are counted monthly even on annual plans, and overage is billed monthly too.
So a yearly plan fixes your base price for twelve months. It doesn't fix your bill. A month with one post that pulls in thousands of keyword comments lands on that month's invoice, whichever billing period you chose.
ManyChat's 2026 tiers and per-contact rates
ManyChat introduced these plans on March 2, 2026. They're the default for accounts created on or after that date, and they're rolling out to older accounts country by country. The table shows each tier's monthly price on both billing periods and the overage rate, as of October 2026.
| Plan | Contacts included | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | Overage, monthly plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 25 | $0 | $0 | Not listed |
| Essential | 250 | $17 | $14 | $0.10 each |
| Pro | 2,500 | $39 | $29 | $0.05 each |
| Business | 7,500 | $99 | $69 | $0.025 each |
| Advanced | 25,000 | $199 | $139 | Custom |
On annual billing the overage rates drop to $0.082 on Essential, $0.038 on Pro and $0.018 on Business. ManyChat's AI features start on Pro. An extra inbox seat costs $25 on Pro and up.
Older accounts still on legacy pricing pay by contact count instead, with Pro from $15 a month for 500 contacts. If your account predates March 2026, check which model your billing page shows before you run any of the sums below.
ManyChat bills at 1,000, 4,000 and 10,000 contacts
ManyChat's overage turns a good month into a bigger bill, and the size depends on which tier you sit on when it happens. The table below works the sums on the published rates, month-to-month unless marked yearly.
| Contacts | Plan | Worked sum | Bill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | Essential | Plan plus overage at $0.10 | About ninety dollars |
| 1,000 | Pro | Inside the 2,500 allowance | $39 |
| 4,000 | Pro | Plan plus overage at $0.05 | Just over a hundred dollars |
| 10,000 | Pro | $39 + 7,500 x $0.05 | About four hundred dollars |
| 10,000 | Business | $99 + 2,500 x $0.025 | $161.50 |
| 10,000 | Business, yearly | $69 + 2,500 x $0.018 | About $114 |
For a demand team, divide the bill by the contacts. Pro at 4,000 contacts works out to about 2.9 cents a contact. Pro at 10,000 is about 4.1 cents, while Business at the same 10,000 is about 1.6 cents.
The spread is the point. The same 10,000 people cost about four hundred dollars or $161.50 a month, depending on a plan choice you made before the post went out.
Where moving up a ManyChat tier beats paying overage
ManyChat lets you stay on a tier and pay overage, and past a certain count that costs more than the next tier up. On monthly billing the break-even points are close to round numbers.
- Essential costs more than Pro once you pass about 470 contacts, because the overage alone fills the gap up to Pro's $39.
- Pro costs more than Business a little under 4,000 contacts, because the overage at $0.05 fills the gap up to Business's $99.
- Business costs more than Advanced somewhere past 10,000 contacts, because the overage at $0.025 fills the gap up to Advanced's $199.
ManyChat also forgives a billing cycle's overage when you upgrade within that same cycle. So if a post takes off mid-month, moving up before the cycle closes clears that month's overage, such as the overage in the 4,000-contact Pro bill above.
You can set an overage threshold in ManyChat as well. We'd set one on any account that runs keyword posts.
What ManyChat does when a post blows past the cap
ManyChat keeps your automations running when you pass your allowance and bills the extra contacts on its own. The overage simply appears on that month's bill.
Far past the cap, ManyChat says automations may pause. For a lead-capture funnel, that pause is the costlier outcome, because the people commenting your keyword stop getting the link while the post is still hot.
Two smaller costs sit beside the contact meter. AI features start on ManyChat Pro, so the $17 Essential plan runs without them. Each extra inbox seat is $25 a month on Pro and up, which adds up for a team sharing the replies.
When ManyChat is still the cheaper or better buy
ManyChat is cheaper than a flat plan like BetterSocials when your volume is small. Essential at $17 a month, billed monthly, covers 250 contacts, and it stays under $29 until about 370 contacts.
ManyChat also earns its price when your funnel is more than one message. Its flow builder runs multi-step sequences with conditions and follow-ups, across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, WhatsApp, SMS and email. If your follow-up lives on WhatsApp or SMS, the contact meter is the price of that reach.
The 14-day free trial on Essential and Pro is enough to run one keyword campaign and read your own active contact count before you commit.
How BetterSocials prices the same keyword-to-DM job
BetterSocials charges a flat monthly price with unlimited contacts, unlimited DMs and unlimited keyword automations, so nothing is billed per contact. CreatorFlow and InstantDM also skip per-contact fees. CreatorFlow Pro is $15 a month, or $12 billed yearly, for two Instagram accounts and 5,000 DMs per workspace a month, as of October 2026.
BetterSocials plans, as of October 2026:
- Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four social accounts and one login.
- Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six social accounts and analytics.
- Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for twelve social accounts and unlimited teammates.
ManyChat Essential is cheaper under about 370 contacts. Past that, the extra money on BetterSocials buys a bill that stays the same in a viral month, plus one inbox for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages, with AI replies in your voice. A keyword comment sends a DM with your link on Instagram and Facebook, and posts a public reply with the link on the other platforms.
The only metered part is AI credits, from 1,000 a month on Creator. When they run out, the AI pauses and nothing is charged. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, card required.
What we would do: pull last month's active contact count from ManyChat, run it through the tables above, and price a flat plan at the same account count. If the ManyChat number sits above $29 most months and your funnel is a single DM with a link, a flat price is the cheaper line in the budget.
Frequently asked questions
How much does ManyChat charge per extra active contact?+
On monthly billing, ManyChat charges $0.10 per extra contact on Essential, $0.05 on Pro and $0.025 on Business. On annual billing the rates are $0.082, $0.038 and $0.018. Advanced overage is custom, and overage is billed every month even when the plan is paid yearly.
Does ManyChat stop working when you go over your contact limit?+
No. ManyChat keeps your automations running and bills the extra contacts as overage for that month. You can set an overage threshold, and upgrading within the same billing cycle forgives that cycle's overage. Far past the cap, ManyChat says automations may pause.
How many contacts does the ManyChat free plan include in 2026?+
The ManyChat free plan includes 25 active contacts a month for accounts created on or after March 2, 2026. Before that change, the free plan held 1,000. One decent keyword post can use up those 25 contacts.
What does ManyChat Pro cost with 10,000 active contacts?+
On month-to-month ManyChat Pro, 10,000 active contacts cost $39 plus 7,500 extra contacts at $0.05, a little over four hundred dollars. On Pro billed yearly it's $29 plus 7,500 at $0.038, a little over three hundred. Business is cheaper at that size, at $161.50 month to month or about $114 billed yearly.
Is there a ManyChat alternative without per-contact pricing?+
Yes. BetterSocials charges a flat price with unlimited contacts, with Creator at $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts. CreatorFlow is flat too, with Pro at $15 a month for two Instagram accounts and 5,000 DMs. Meta Business Suite runs basic keyword comment-to-message on Instagram and Facebook for free, as of July 2026.
Does an annual ManyChat plan avoid overage fees?+
No. ManyChat counts active contacts every month and bills overage monthly, even on annual plans. The yearly plan lowers both the base price and the rate, so Pro drops from $39 to $29 a month and from $0.05 to $0.038 per extra contact.
