TikTok keyword auto-replies: how to turn them into leads

November 3, 2026 · 8 min read

Yes, you can auto-reply to TikTok comments with a keyword and a link, but the link goes in a public reply under the comment. TikTok doesn't let any tool turn a comment into a private DM, outside a limited rollout in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. Tools such as BetterSocials post that public reply for you and then answer the DMs that follow, and ManyChat is the fit when your TikTok funnel starts with people messaging you first.

The rules behind TikTok keyword replies, in one place

TikTok sets the limits that every comment tool works inside, so we wrote this as a rules explainer: the windows, the counts and what each one means for a lead. A keyword auto-reply is an automatic answer that fires when a comment contains a word you picked, such as GUIDE or LINK. Our sources are TikTok's Help Center and API documentation, read October 16, 2026, and vendor documentation and pricing pages read between September 30 and October 28, 2026.

The short version has three parts. A comment can get your link in public within minutes. A DM can only start when the person writes to you, and from then on you have a fixed window to answer.

What a keyword auto-reply can and can't do on TikTok

TikTok allows a keyword reply in public and holds back the private DM. The table below sets out the limits we found, with TikTok's own documentation as the source for the API and filter rows and BetterSocials' product documentation, checked September 30, 2026, for the DM rows.

The 48-hour window counts from the person's last message, and each new message from them restarts it. A reply is text or one image, never both. The 500-keyword figure covers LIVE chat only, and TikTok's help page gives no maximum for keyword filters on video comments.

So the honest answer to "can a keyword send my link" is yes, in public. The private conversation is the next step, and it starts on the viewer's side.

From a TikTok comment to a lead, step by step

TikTok comments turn into leads when the keyword reply hands people a reason to message you, and you answer inside the 48-hour window. A lead here means a person who asked about a price, a booking or availability. These are the steps, in order.

  1. 1Say the keyword out loud in the video and write it in the caption, so viewers know which word to comment.
  2. 2Set the keyword reply to post your link under each matching comment, with a line inviting them to message you for anything the link doesn't answer.
  3. 3Answer every DM that arrives inside 48 hours, and keep each conversation under TikTok's 10-reply cap.
  4. 4Tag the people who asked about price, booking or availability, so you follow up with buyers first.
  5. 5Measure the clicks on the link, so you know which video sent them.

Step five needs a note. Once you switch on Link tracking in Settings, BetterSocials adds UTM tags (labels on a link that tell your analytics where a click came from) to keyword links on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn Company Pages and Threads. TikTok keyword links go out untagged for now, so write your own tags into the TikTok link if you want to read the clicks in GA4.

What TikTok's own business tools cover

TikTok documents automatic messages for Business accounts in its Help Center, in How to set up automatic messages for TikTok accounts. For a keyword in a video comment, the public reply with your link comes from a tool connected to TikTok's API.

TikTok also has a Help Center guide to set up lead generation from a Business Account. Read it before you pick a tool.

For moderation, TikTok's app gives you Filter unwanted comments, keyword filters and Creator Care Mode. You can bulk delete up to 100 comments at a time, and you can block accounts from the same screen. These tools hide and remove comments. They don't reply.

What TikTok's API lets third-party tools do

TikTok's Accounts API gives approved tools six comment actions: create, reply, like or unlike, hide or unhide, delete and list. Its comment management documentation says the comment.update webhook sends "notifications within five minutes of a comment or reply being created, deleted, or the comment or reply visibility settings being modified."

That five-minute webhook sets the pace for any keyword reply built on the API. Expect the public reply to land within minutes of the comment, rather than the same second.

The API's comment endpoints don't include TikTok's own filter settings. A tool can hide one comment at a time, but it can't switch on Filter unwanted comments or your keyword filters for you.

Which tools handle TikTok comments, and who each one suits

ManyChat works on TikTok, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Its help article Set up your first TikTok automation in Manychat: User sends a message starts the flow from a person messaging your account. As of October 2026, Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05, billed monthly.

That meter matters on a video that takes off. Every contact past the 2,500 included on Pro adds $0.05 to that month's bill, so a viral month costs more than a quiet one. Pick ManyChat if you want multi-step DM flows that start when people message you, across several messaging apps.

Several schedulers read TikTok comments in a shared inbox, as of October 2026:

  • Later's Conversations inbox starts on Growth at $37.50 a month billed yearly, or $50 a month.
  • Pallyy's inbox starts on Pro at $25 a month, or $20 billed yearly.
  • Vista Social Professional is $99 a month, or $80 billed yearly, with two users.

Pallyy's Pro is a few dollars a month cheaper than BetterSocials Creator. What the $29 covers in BetterSocials is keyword replies with your link on TikTok, AI replies to TikTok DMs and lead tags on arrival.

How BetterSocials handles the TikTok side

BetterSocials pulls TikTok comments and DMs into one Inbox and runs keyword replies from a single screen. You open Comment to DM, choose New keyword link, and fill five fields: the accounts, the keyword, the public reply, the DM message and an AI replies switch. Capitals in the keyword don't matter.

On TikTok, the message you wrote posts as the public reply under the comment, with the link in it. Instagram and Facebook get both halves, a public reply and a real DM with the link.

For the DMs that follow, BetterSocials has an AI replies setting for TikTok DMs with three options: Off, Draft for me and Reply in my voice. On Reply in my voice, a DM gets an answer about a minute after it arrives. When your AI rules don't cover the question, it waits for you in Needs reply. TikTok only lets apps answer DMs for accounts outside the UK and Europe.

Every new comment and DM gets a tag on arrival, and a question about price, booking or availability is tagged Lead. A new lead sends a push notification to your phone.

Creator is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, for four social accounts and one login. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts. Every plan has unlimited contacts and unlimited keyword automations, with a 7-day free trial that needs a card.

Frequently asked questions

Does TikTok have an official keyword auto-reply for comments?+

TikTok's Help Center documents automatic messages for Business accounts. To answer a keyword in a video comment with a link, you connect a tool through TikTok's API, which lets apps list comments and post replies. The reply is public and sits under the person's comment.

Can a TikTok comment trigger an automatic DM with my link?+

No tool can do that today outside TikTok's limited rollout in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. TikTok only lets a business reply to a DM after the person writes first. A keyword comment can get a public reply with your link, and the DM conversation starts when they message you.

Does ManyChat work with TikTok comments?+

ManyChat works on TikTok, and its first TikTok setup guide starts from a person sending your account a message. As of October 2026, Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05, billed monthly. BetterSocials posts the keyword reply under the comment and bills a flat price with unlimited contacts, from $29 a month for four accounts.

How many DM replies can I send on TikTok?+

TikTok allows up to 10 replies within 48 hours of the person's last message, and each new message from them restarts that window. A reply is text up to 6,000 characters or one image, never both. On BetterSocials, the TikTok account has to be a Business account to reply.

Is it against TikTok's rules to auto-reply to comments?+

Third-party tools post replies through the comment endpoints TikTok documents in its API. BetterSocials uses the official APIs, states the platform limits plainly and doesn't claim to be ban-proof. Keep each reply short and useful, and let your AI rules or a fresh AI draft vary the wording so it reads like you.

How do I know which TikTok comments are leads?+

In BetterSocials, every new comment and DM gets a tag when it arrives, and a comment asking about price, booking or availability is tagged Lead. A new lead sends a push notification to your phone. Unanswered leads get at most one reminder email a day.
