Does Buffer reply to comments, and on which platforms?

October 29, 2026 · 9 min read

Yes. Buffer replies to comments through Community, an inbox on every plan. It covers Instagram, Facebook Pages, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profiles, but not DMs or ad comments. As of October 2026, Essentials is $6 a channel monthly, or $5 billed yearly. BetterSocials, an AI social media manager for local businesses, creators and small agencies, puts comments and DMs in the same inbox with AI replies in your voice, from $29 a month for four accounts.

We checked Buffer's prices and platform list on buffer.com/pricing on October 22, 2026. BetterSocials is our product, so it comes first in the list below, and we say plainly where Buffer is the better pick.

Buffer's comment inbox in one answer

Buffer's Community is the inbox where comments on your posts land, so you answer them in one place instead of app by app. Every plan has it. Even the Free plan answers comments on up to three channels, and paid plans start at $6 a channel a month, or $5 a channel billed yearly.

Community holds comments only. Buffer's help center says Buffer has no direct messaging, so Instagram and Facebook DMs stay in the phone app. Comments on ads aren't covered either.

Pick Buffer if you mostly schedule posts and answer comments by hand. Pick a tool with a DM inbox if your customers ask about prices and bookings in DMs.

How BetterSocials handles comments and DMs

BetterSocials is best for local businesses, creators and small agencies whose customers ask about prices and bookings in comments and DMs. BetterSocials puts every comment and DM from your connected accounts in one Inbox, with views for Needs reply and Replied. That covers Instagram comments and DMs, Facebook Page comments and Messenger DMs, TikTok comments and DMs, and comments on YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages. TikTok DMs are reply-only: you get 48 hours and up to 10 replies after the person's last message.

The AI writes comment replies in your voice, from a voice profile built on your past replies and AI rules you write in plain sentences. Under Settings, then AI voice, you pick Off, Draft for me or Reply in my voice. With Draft for me, nothing posts until you approve it, one at a time or with Approve in bulk. Questions wait in Needs reply unless you turn on Answer questions too, which needs at least one AI rule first.

DMs have their own AI replies section with the same three settings, so Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs can get drafts or answers in your voice. A keyword also sends a DM: a word in a comment on Instagram or Facebook sends the person a DM with your link. On TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages, the keyword posts a public reply with the link.

Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts and one login. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates. Every plan has unlimited contacts and keyword automations, nothing billed per contact, and a 7-day free trial with a card.

How much does Buffer cost per month in 2026?

Buffer charges per channel, and a channel is one connected profile, page or account. Your bill is the plan's per-channel price times the number of channels you connect. The table below shows each plan as Buffer's pricing page listed it on October 22, 2026.

PlanBilled monthlyBilled yearlyUsersComments
Free$0, up to 3 channels$0, up to 3 channelsOne userCommunity inbox
Essentials$6 a channel$5 a channelOne userCommunity inbox
Team$12 a channel$10 a channelUnlimited team membersCommunity inbox

The Free plan also caps you at 10 scheduled posts per channel. Essentials and Team come with a 14-day trial.

Billing yearly cuts the per-channel price on both paid plans, from $6 to $5 on Essentials and from $12 to $10 on Team. Team is the plan to look at when more than one person needs to log in, since Essentials is one user.

Is comment management included on every Buffer plan?

Yes. Buffer lists the Community inbox on Free, Essentials and Team alike. The plans differ in the price per channel, the Free plan's three-channel cap and how many people can log in.

That makes Buffer Free a real option for a small account. With up to three channels, one user and 10 scheduled posts per channel, you can post and answer comments on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube for $0.

Past three channels, you move to Essentials. Four channels on Essentials cost 4 x $6 = $24 a month, or 4 x $5 = $20 a month billed yearly. Community comes with it at no extra charge.

Which platforms does Buffer reply to comments on?

Buffer's Community replies to comments on ten platforms, according to its pricing page on October 22, 2026. The list below uses Buffer's own name for each one.

  • Facebook Pages
  • Threads
  • Bluesky
  • LinkedIn profiles and pages
  • X
  • Instagram professional accounts
  • Google Business Profiles
  • TikTok
  • YouTube
  • Mastodon

Ad comments aren't covered on any of them. Community answers the comments under your own posts.

That list is longer than ours. BetterSocials handles comments on six platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages. If your customers comment on X, Bluesky, Mastodon or your Google Business Profile, Buffer covers them and BetterSocials doesn't. Buffer also lists LinkedIn profiles, while BetterSocials brings in LinkedIn comments from a Company Page.

What Buffer's Community inbox leaves out

Buffer has no direct messages on any plan. Its help center says it in six words: "buffer does not offer direct messaging." When a customer DMs you on Instagram or Facebook, you answer in the phone app, outside Buffer.

If your customers ask about prices or bookings in DMs, those conversations live in a second place you have to keep checking. We wrote about how to reply to Instagram DMs faster without hiring anyone for exactly that case.

Ad comments are the other gap. Buffer's pricing page says Community doesn't cover them. If you run TikTok ads, TikTok Ads Manager lets you hide, unhide and export ad comments in bulk.

YouTube is a different case. YouTube has no DM API for any tool, so comments and public replies are all any tool can handle there. Buffer handles YouTube comments, and so does BetterSocials.

What does Buffer cost at your channel count?

Buffer is cheaper than BetterSocials at four and six accounts. BetterSocials is cheaper at twelve accounts with a team. The table below prices both at the same account count, with the yearly rate first and the month-to-month rate second, using Buffer's prices from October 22, 2026.

AccountsBuffer planBuffer per channelBetterSocials planBetterSocials total
Four, one loginEssentials$5 yearly, $6 monthlyCreator$24 yearly, $29 monthly
Six, one loginEssentials$5 yearly, $6 monthlyPro$39 yearly, $49 monthly
Twelve, one loginEssentials$5 yearly, $6 monthlyTeam$79 yearly, $99 monthly
Twelve, with a teamTeam$10 yearly, $12 monthlyTeam$79 yearly, $99 monthly

Four channels on Essentials are 4 x $5 = $20 billed yearly, or 4 x $6 = $24 monthly. Six channels are 6 x $5 = $30 billed yearly. Twelve channels on Buffer Team run past a hundred dollars a month on either billing, at $10 or $12 a channel.

At four accounts, Buffer is $4 a month cheaper on yearly billing and $5 cheaper month to month. At six, Buffer is $9 cheaper billed yearly. What the difference buys is the DM side of the inbox, plus BetterSocials' AI replies in your voice and keyword comment-to-DM.

On one login at twelve accounts, Buffer Essentials is $19 a month cheaper billed yearly, because BetterSocials needs its Team plan past six accounts. Add teammates and it flips. BetterSocials Team is $79 a month billed yearly, or $99 monthly, for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates, while Buffer Team at twelve channels runs past a hundred dollars on either billing.

Who should pick Buffer, and who needs DMs in the same inbox

Buffer is the better pick if you mostly schedule posts and answer comments, or if your audience comments on X, Bluesky, Mastodon or Google Business Profiles. Buffer Free costs nothing for up to three channels. At four to six channels, Essentials costs less than the BetterSocials plan with the same account count.

Pick a tool with a DM inbox if your customers write to you privately. Several tools do this, at different prices:

  • BetterSocials puts comments and DMs from six platforms in one inbox, at $29 a month for four accounts, or $24 billed yearly.
  • Later's Conversations inbox holds Instagram and Facebook DMs and comments, plus TikTok comments, from the Growth plan at $37.50 a month billed yearly or $50 monthly, as of September 2026. It has no YouTube or LinkedIn conversations.
  • Hootsuite includes its inbox from Standard at $99 per user a month billed annually, as of October 2026. Its inbox doesn't include YouTube comments.
  • Sprout Social puts its inbox on Standard at $199 per seat a month billed annually, as of October 2026.

Hootsuite and Sprout Social price per user, so the bill grows with every teammate. BetterSocials prices per plan, with unlimited teammates on Team. We go deeper on the head-to-head in BetterSocials vs Buffer: which one fits your team?
