Sprout Social pricing 2026: why the real number is $199, not $79

August 20, 2026 · 8 min read

Sprout Social costs $79 per seat per month for Essentials on annual billing ($99 month to month), then $199 for Standard, $299 for Professional and $399 for Advanced, with Enterprise priced on request (sproutsocial.com/pricing, checked August 2026). The number that decides most purchases is $199, because that is the cheapest plan with the consolidated inbox, and the inbox is what nearly everyone is actually shopping for.

Disclosure

We build BetterSocials, which competes with Sprout at the solo end of the market. Every Sprout figure here is from their own pricing page or their investor filings, and dated.

What Essentials at $79 actually is

A publishing plan. It is a good one, with a proper calendar and solid analytics, and if scheduling is genuinely the whole job then $79 a seat buys you a very well built scheduler.

The problem is that almost nobody arrives at Sprout Social wanting a scheduler. They arrive wanting every message from every network in one screen, which is Sprout's most famous feature. That is Standard, and Standard is $199.

The short version

If the inbox is why you are looking at Sprout, your real price is $199 per seat per month, not $79. That is $2,388 a year for one person.

Per seat is the part that compounds

Every Sprout tier is per seat. Nothing about the price shrinks when the company is one person, and it doubles the day you hire someone.

  • One person on Standard: $199 a month, $2,388 a year.
  • You and an assistant: $398 a month, $4,776 a year.
  • A team of three on Standard: $597 a month, $7,164 a year.

For a marketing department those are ordinary numbers. Sprout reported $457.5 million in FY2025 revenue and has 3,803 customers paying more than $30,000 a year (investors.sproutsocial.com, checked August 2026). Against that backdrop, a $199 seat is not expensive, it is just aimed somewhere else.

What the price does not cover

  • Email. Not a channel at any tier. A customer who starts in a DM and moves to email becomes two conversations in two tools.
  • Keyword comment-to-DM automation. Sprout replies and schedules, but the mechanic where a comment containing a chosen word automatically triggers a DM with your link is not part of it. That is normally a second subscription.
  • Replies trained on your writing. There are AI features, but the inbox does not draft in your voice from your own past replies.
  • Anything below $199 with an inbox. There is no middle option between the $79 publishing plan and the $199 inbox plan.

Which tier do you actually need?

Sprout's ladder is unusually steep, and the honest way to read it is by asking what each step buys rather than what it costs.

Essentials, $79

Publishing and analytics for one person. A good scheduler at a price that is high for a scheduler. If this is all you need, you are paying a premium for the Sprout name and there are better-value options at $5 to $29.

Standard, $199

The inbox tier, and the reason most people are on the pricing page at all. If you came here because you want every message in one screen, this is your number. Everything below it is a different product.

Professional, $299 and Advanced, $399

Depth: more reporting, more listening, more automation of the routing kind. These tiers make sense when several people share a workload and someone senior asks for numbers. They make no sense at all for one person, and no amount of feature comparison changes that.

The honest read

Sprout has no plan designed for a solo creator. That is not a flaw in the product, it is the product working as intended for the customer it was built for.

The three year number

Software decisions get made on a monthly figure and paid on a multi-year one, so it is worth seeing both.

SetupPer yearOver three years
One person, Sprout Standard$2,388$7,164
Two people, Sprout Standard$4,776$14,328
One person, Agorapulse Standard$948$2,844
One person, BetterSocials$348$1,044

For a business with a marketing budget, the top row is a line item. For one person paying out of what the business actually earns, $7,164 is a serious amount of money to spend on a message inbox.

The comparison that actually decides it

How you would buy itPer monthWhat you still would not have
BetterSocials, one subscription$29 flatTikTok comments, because TikTok keeps that API closed. X is not supported.
The cheap stack: Buffer Essentials on six channels, plus ManyChat Pro$59DMs in one place. Buffer's inbox covers comments only, so every Instagram and Facebook DM stays in the phone app.
The suite stack: Agorapulse Standard, plus ManyChat Pro$108Email in the same thread as the DMs, and replies trained on how you write.
The one most people shop: Sprout Social Standard, plus ManyChat Pro$228The same two things, at seat pricing built for a marketing department.

Every figure is the annual billing rate, which is the cheapest each vendor sells. Buffer is $5 per channel and six channels is $30 (buffer.com/pricing, checked August 2026). Agorapulse Standard is $79 per user (agorapulse.com/pricing, checked July 2026). Sprout Social Standard is $199 per seat, and Standard is where their consolidated inbox starts (sproutsocial.com/pricing, checked August 2026). ManyChat Pro is $29 on annual billing and $39 month to month (manychat.com/pricing, checked July 2026). Month to month, every stack on this table costs more. BetterSocials is $29 either way, and the first 100 founding members keep $19 forever.

Is Sprout Social worth $199 a seat?

Yes, if

You have a team, a budget line, and someone who reads the reports. Social listening, assignment, audit trails and enterprise analytics are real and Sprout builds them properly. Nothing cheaper on this page matches that depth, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

No, if

You are one person and you wanted an inbox. You would be paying $2,388 a year for a feature that costs $348 a year elsewhere, plus infrastructure built for an organisation you do not have.

If you are pricing a switch, start with the Sprout Social alternatives, or compare what Hootsuite charges for the same shape of product. BetterSocials is $29 flat, with $19 forever for the first 100 founding members.
