CapCut pricing: what Pro costs and when free covers you

August 18, 2026 · 7 min read

CapCut Pro costs $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year on the web checkout, and the newer Standard tier runs about $9.99 a month, sold monthly only (capcut.com, checked August 2026). The free app still edits and exports manual work without a watermark. What you are really buying with Pro is auto captions, the AI tools and the premium asset library, and whether that is worth $240 a year depends entirely on which of those you touch.

We build BetterSocials, and it includes a free AI video editor. CapCut and our editor overlap on some jobs and not others, and this page is honest about which. Prices are from CapCut's own pages with the check date.

The three CapCut tiers, priced

TierPriceBillingThe short version
Free$0n/aFull manual editor, no-watermark exports, limited captions
Standard~$9.99/moMonthly onlyMore assets and essential AI, but captions still prompt for Pro
Pro$19.99/mo · $179.99/yrMonthly or annualAuto captions, background remover, tracking, AI avatars, 1TB storage

A note on the Standard number: CapCut's own help pages deliberately avoid printing dollar amounts and say pricing "can vary depending on your region, device, and available promotions." The $19.99 and $179.99 Pro figures are on CapCut's own Standard-vs-Pro comparison page; the ~$9.99 Standard figure is what checkouts were showing in August 2026. Your app store price can differ from the web price.

Why your CapCut bill looks different than last year

CapCut restructured. Their pricing-change notice says the previous Pro pricing "is no longer available for new subscribers," and the new Pro doubled the AI points from 550 to 1,200 and grew cloud storage from 100GB to 1TB. In practice the old cheap Pro became Standard, and a more expensive Pro appeared above it. Reddit's CapCut community spent months confused about which plan they were on, which is a fair reaction to two paid tiers with overlapping names.

What Pro actually gates

  • Auto captions. The one that stings, because it used to be free. On the free tier caption generation is limited, and CapCut's help center names auto captions as Pro-only functionality that blocks export.
  • The AI kit. Background remover, motion tracking, camera tracking, AI avatars, AI-generated content, all Pro per CapCut's comparison page.
  • Premium templates, effects and stock. Usable in a free edit, but they watermark the export until you pay.
  • Storage. 1TB of cloud space on Pro.

Is CapCut Pro worth $19.99 a month?

Yes, if you live in the asset library

Template edits, trending effects, AI avatars, green screen without a green screen. If your content leans on CapCut's library and its look, Pro is the honest price of that library and there is no cheaper way to get it.

No, if you mostly cut and caption your own footage

If your videos are you talking to a camera, the Pro features you would actually use come down to captions and cutting time. That is $240 a year for a job simpler tools now do free. This is most people posting to Reels, Shorts and TikTok.

The free route for talking videos

The BetterSocials editor is free on every account, no card, and built for exactly that job. Your clip uploads and the silences and long pauses are already cut when it opens. The transcript is the editor: delete the sentence you flubbed and it leaves the video. Captions and retake removal run through the AI you already pay for (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP agent) so they cost nothing here, and exports have no watermark on any plan. It edits long form and vertical. If you also want the template look for some posts, keeping free CapCut next to it costs nothing either.

Compare that to the CapCut math: Pro is $179.99 a year on annual billing, and Standard is monthly only, so a year of Standard is about $120 with captions still gated. Start editing free and see whether you still need either.

Three things to check before you pay CapCut

  • Export the edit you already made. If nothing you used is premium, it exports clean and free, and you just saved a subscription.
  • Count how many of your last ten videos used a template or premium effect. Under half, and Standard or free covers you.
  • If it is captions you are paying for, price the alternatives first. Caption tools have become commodity, and several editors now do them free.

Frequently asked questions

How much is CapCut Pro?+

$19.99 a month or $179.99 a year on the web checkout, per CapCut's own comparison page (checked August 2026). App store prices can differ, and CapCut notes pricing varies by region and promotions.

What is the difference between CapCut Standard and Pro?+

Standard is about $9.99 a month, monthly only, with more assets and essential AI like noise reduction. Pro adds auto captions, background remover, motion and camera tracking, AI avatars, more AI points and 1TB of storage. Auto captions prompt for Pro even on Standard.

Why did CapCut get more expensive?+

CapCut restructured its plans. The pricing-change notice says the previous Pro pricing is no longer available for new subscribers. The new Pro carries 1,200 AI points and 1TB storage at $19.99, and the old cheaper tier effectively became the monthly-only Standard.

Can I use CapCut without paying?+

Yes. Manual editing is free and CapCut's policy is that manual edits export without a watermark. You lose most auto captions, the AI tools and premium assets. Templates and premium effects add a watermark on free exports.

What is a free alternative to CapCut Pro for captions and cutting?+

The BetterSocials AI video editor is free with no card: automatic silence cutting, transcript editing where deleting a word removes that moment, captions through the AI you already use, and no watermark. CapCut stays the better choice for template-driven edits.
