How to schedule TikTok posts (and why every guide gives a different limit)

August 31, 2026 · 7 min read

TikTok schedules videos for free from its web uploader, and you need a Business Account to get at it. What almost every article about this gets wrong is the window: the number you keep reading, 10 days, comes from TikTok's own announcement in July 2021 and has been quoted ever since without anyone rechecking it. Open the date picker in the uploader and read what it offers you today, because that is the only number that is definitely true.

Disclosure

We build BetterSocials, which publishes video to TikTok. It cannot read TikTok comments, and the section below explains why no tool at our level can.

Can you schedule TikTok posts without a tool?

Yes, on desktop. Scheduling lives in the web uploader rather than the phone app, and TikTok's own wording when they launched it was "you'll need a Business Account in order to access desktop scheduling" (TikTok for Business, July 2021). Once scheduled from the web, the video shows up in both the web version and the app.

Switching to a Business Account is free and takes about thirty seconds in your settings. The old worry that it suppresses your reach has never had evidence behind it that I have seen, and TikTok pushes creators toward it constantly, which is not what a platform does with a setting it penalises.

Why every article gives you a different number

Search this topic and you will find 10 days, 30 days and a couple of other answers, all stated with total confidence.

Here is what happened. TikTok announced the scheduler in July 2021 with the line "you can schedule videos anywhere from 15 minutes to 10 days in advance of publishing." That sentence got copied into hundreds of blog posts. TikTok has since changed the product more than once without restating the limit anywhere as quotable, so half the internet is repeating a five-year-old number and the other half is repeating a figure someone measured once.

What to do instead

Open the web uploader, hit the schedule toggle, and open the date picker. It will show you the furthest date it accepts. That takes ten seconds and beats every article on this subject, this one included.

I would rather tell you that than pick a number and sound authoritative about it. A stale limit in a how-to guide is the kind of thing that makes someone plan a month of content around a cap that does not exist.

How to schedule a TikTok

  1. 1Go to the TikTok web uploader on a desktop browser and sign in.
  2. 2Switch to a Business Account first if you have not already. It is free.
  3. 3Upload your video and write the caption, cover and settings as normal.
  4. 4Turn on the schedule option instead of posting immediately.
  5. 5Pick the date and time, checking how far ahead the picker actually lets you go.
  6. 6Confirm. The scheduled video appears in both the web version and the app.

What TikTok's scheduler will not do

  • Work from your phone. Desktop web only, which is awkward if you shoot and edit on mobile.
  • Post anywhere else. The same video going to Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Facebook means three more uploads.
  • Help with the comments. A TikTok video generates comments faster than almost anything else, and the scheduler does nothing about them.

Things worth knowing before you queue a month

  • Upload from the desktop and you lose the app's editor. Effects, text and sounds added in the TikTok app are not available in the web uploader, so anything you want from the native editor has to be baked into the file first or added by drafting in the app.
  • Sounds are the thing that ages. A trending audio you queue for three weeks out will not be trending when it lands. Schedule the evergreen posts and keep the trend-driven ones manual.
  • Check the cover frame. Covers chosen in the web uploader can differ from what you would have picked in the app, and it is the first thing anyone sees on your grid.
  • Be there for the first hour if you can. Whatever you believe about the algorithm, early comments are real conversations and answering them is the cheapest engagement you will ever get.

The TikTok comment problem, honestly

This is worth being straight about, because a lot of tool marketing is not.

TikTok keeps its comment and direct message API closed to a small set of official partners. It is not that no API exists, which you will occasionally read. It exists, and ManyChat is one of the partners with access: they run full comment and DM automation on TikTok for Business accounts, though not in the UK or EU (manychat.com, checked July 2026).

Everyone else, us included, can publish to TikTok and cannot read the comments. So if TikTok conversations are the centre of your business, ManyChat is the honest answer and I would send you there. If TikTok is one of several places you post and the conversations that matter happen on Instagram, YouTube or LinkedIn, that gap costs you very little.

Scheduling TikTok alongside everything else

The reason to use a tool here is not TikTok on its own, since TikTok schedules itself for free. It is the fourth upload of the same video.

What I would do

TikTok only

Use the web uploader. It is free, it works, and no tool improves on it for a single platform.

TikTok plus Reels plus Shorts

This is the common case and it is where a tool pays for itself, because it is the same vertical video going to three places. The shortlist is here.

TikTok is where your customers talk to you

ManyChat, genuinely. They have partner-level API access that nobody at our end of the market has, and no amount of preferring our own product changes that.

If the conversations that matter to you happen on Instagram, YouTube or LinkedIn instead, BetterSocials posts to all of them and pulls those replies into one inbox for $29 a month flat.

Frequently asked questions

Can you schedule TikTok posts for free?+

Yes. TikTok has scheduling built into its web uploader at no cost. You need a Business Account, which is free to switch to, and scheduling works on desktop rather than in the phone app. Once scheduled from the web, the video appears in both the web version and the app.

How far in advance can you schedule a TikTok?+

Check the date picker in the uploader rather than trusting an article. TikTok's original 2021 announcement said 15 minutes to 10 days, and that sentence has been copied across the web ever since without being rechecked. TikTok has changed the product since without restating the limit clearly.

Do you need a Business Account to schedule TikToks?+

Yes for desktop scheduling, per TikTok's own wording: "you'll need a Business Account in order to access desktop scheduling." Switching is free and takes seconds in your settings.

Can you schedule TikToks from your phone?+

No. Scheduling lives in the desktop web uploader. If you shoot and edit on mobile you will need to transfer the file to a computer, or use a third party scheduling tool that supports TikTok.

Which tools can automate TikTok comments and DMs?+

Very few, because TikTok restricts its comment and DM API to a small set of official partners. ManyChat is one of them and runs full comment and DM automation on TikTok for Business accounts, though not in the UK or EU. Most tools, including BetterSocials, can publish to TikTok but cannot read its comments.

What is the best tool to schedule TikTok alongside Reels and Shorts?+

Any multi-platform scheduler, since the value is publishing one vertical video to three places rather than TikTok itself. Buffer is $5 per channel per month, Metricool is $20 priced per brand, and BetterSocials is $29 flat and also pulls the Instagram and YouTube replies into one inbox.
